Youth Advisory Council Grants

The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has already awarded nearly $15,000 in grants supporting youth related projects in 2011. Recently, YAC approved mini-grants to 7 different elementary school classrooms throughout the county. Mini grant projects ranged from a school store at Belle River Elementary that donates its profits to charitable organizations to Fair Haven Elementary’s Junior Master Gardener Club.
Additional grants this year have supported a Renaissance Festival at Yale High School, a book drive at Port Huron Northern High School, Earthlearning Adventures, a reading program at Avoca Elementary and the Boy Scouts Scoutreach Program.
This month the YAC is looking forwarding to selecting the 2011 recipient of the YAC C.A.R.E. Award. This award is given to a teacher who incorporates community involvement and philanthropy into his/her classroom. Eddy Elementary’s Susan Day was the 2010 recipient.
